An Australian Space Station?

  1. The World’s Last Mass Extinction (as far as humans are concerned) is almost certainly now unstoppable and will likely continue to its inevitable conclusion. The out-of-control obscene greed and lust for power by the Military Industrial Financial Intelligence Media Complexes (MIFIMC) of the world - mostly in the US - have ensured our doom . . which is a pity - I wanted to explore the rest of the universe . .
  2. The decision by the Australian Government to renege on the deal with the French for a bunch of Attack submarines is a sensible, rational and logical idea.
  3. The proposal by the Australian Government to purchase eight nuclear powered submarines under the new AUKUS alliance is a stupid, short-sighted, reptilian, End-of-the-World accelerating proposal.

I suggest that we instead put the approximately $100M into the Australian Space Agency to build a permanent space station at the Sun-Earth Lagrange Point 1 that would have, as well as its fundamental space science research responsibilites, the role of adjusting a solar sheild to reduce the insolation on Earth as a way of reducing Global Warming.

The current annual budget for the ASA is Not Quite Enough To Get To The Moon at about $13M. Really, it is pathetically underfunded and should be given a serious task - preserving Human Civilisation! Musk and NASA are going to Mars - but Colonizing Mars Is a Terrible Idea. So if colonising Mars is not likely to be a sensible long-term strategy then what should we do? Clearly destroying Earth ecologically is a dumb idea and we should do something about that - but scientists have been saying we should do something about that for at least 60 years . . and we have made no progress. CO2 emissions are actually continuing to increase - not to mention Methane and other problems - and even if we could fix these problems, then we will have to deal with the Global Dimming problem whereby as we fix one problem, and another gets worse because of the good work on the first one - which negates all the good work we do . . and even makes the situation worse . .

The obvious thing to do is to just control the amount of insolation the Earth receives while continuing to sort out Global Warming from Green House Gases - and still be able to deal with the resulting heating of the planet by the reduction in Global Dimming (from there being less crap in the air) ie:

So, not only would Australia be taking on a “Moon Shot” project in the great tradition of the speech from President Kennedy, we would be helping to save the planet ecologically and Human Civilisation at the same time.

The current Australian Government makes decisions on Military spending like this - we have to be able to do MUCH better than that - there is no alternative for our own survival but to leave the old extinctional behaviour behind and actually do something that will help spread human civilisation throughout the Galaxy . . Australia should take the lead and start to move its population to a Dyson Ring of rotating cylindrical habitats around the sun - and let The Earth return to a wild place . . for occasional exreme adventure seekers from space (To Save Earth We Must Leave It Behind).
